Marcus Diego Antonio Koloman Georg Mautner Markhof / 30.9.1958 – 31.12.2024
Marcus Mautner Markhof was born in Vienna in 1958 as the youngest child and second son of Georg IV J. E. and Edeltraut (née Toller). Together with his siblings Georg V. Quintus and Maria del Carmen, he grew up in Simmering on the premises of the family. He graduated from the Kalksburg College and completed his law studies at the University of Vienna. Still studying, he already gained experience in the family business, whose management he took over in 1994 after working at Nestle and Bioquelle. After the delicatessen was sold to the Munich Develey family in 2002, he moved to cleaning specialist Thonhauser in 2004 before returning to his brewery roots in Grieskirchen.
In 1984 he married Martina Marek in Attersee, followed by children Maria Mercedes, Maria Antonia and Georg VI. Marcus. With great personal commitment, he not only worked for the preservation and continuation of the Mautner Markhof Children’s Hospital for years, but also supported other sustainable social projects in the spirit of the family tradition.
As the complete renovation of the brewery was not successful, not at least due to the economic restrictions of the Corona pandemic, he had to give up on his passion project in 2024 and sell the site to project developers. On New Year’s Eve of the same year, after a long and serious illness, he fell asleep peacefully surrounded by his family.
